Jawbone Jambox Review | Is This The Best Portable Speakers?
Jawbone Jambox: What Is It?
The Jawbone Jambox has been around since the end of 2010 and is well known amongst tech geeks and audiophiles of its existence. Someone like me only recently discovered this not long ago. Well, I wouldn't say I'm technophobic but I just happened not to realize about some new gadget as quickly as others.
So what is so special about Jawbone Jambox??
Before I spill the beans about this unique gadget, the Jawbone Jambox is actually an airplay speaker that has wireless capabilities and is portable as well. It is tiny for a speaker to pump out so much volume/noise for its size. And it is surprisingly good at producing low basses and trebles. For it to be on the Engadget Holiday Gift Guide not too long ago, must mean that it is pretty good, but is it worth the price tag??
Let us have a closer look at its features below
Do You Have Portable Speakers?
Jawbone Jambox Features
1) Compatibility
The Jawbone Jambox measures 5.95 x 2.25 x 1.60 inches. Pretty small I must say but it is compatible with your Bluetooth devices, your computer, your TV, your iPAD or any tablet PC and your phone. Yeah, so it pretty is pretty much compatible with most major electronic devices in the market today.
2) BIG Sound in a Small Speaker
I must emphasize that for a speaker for this size, it sure does pack a punch. I was pretty impressed with how good it sounds. Like I said, great lows and good trebles. You will not believe how loud this thing can get. Testing shows that it could go up to 85dB but even without proper testing equipment, the sound is loud enough to fill my entire masterbed room. You will be surprised how loud action movies or car chasing scenes sound on this speaker. What really powers this speaker is the proprietary, highly sophisticated acoustic drivers. So whether or not you were to plug the Jawbone Jambox into your hifi system, your iPAD or your Android Smartphone it still works as well as it should.
I remember using it for the first time, and this wireless speaker really has a lot of sound coming from such a small piece of thing. I can literally hold it on my palm while it makes some noise :D So just fire it up to any movies, games or music!!
The one thing you need to know here is that the bass is powered by quite a powerful passive bass radiator while the airtight enclosure allows really nice sounding trebles or highs and trembling lows to come out from almost any music or sound that you want to test it with.
3)Bring it Anywhere!
Obviously, its small construction makes it very portable, hence bringing it around is definitely NOT A PROBLEM! The thing that I like about it is the fact that once I have my wireless network on I can literally bring this Jawbone Jambox speaker anywhere around my house and I will still be able to hear good music coming from it!
Stainless steel constructionVery portable looking speakers. Light enough to carry around no matter what your fitness level isMolded Rubber casingHere are more specifications you should know about it before you decide to buy it.:
USB connectivity - MicroUSB for charging onlyPC Compatibility - Windows XP, Vista, 7, Mac OS X 10.5 and higher.Stereo Input: 3.5mm JackBluetooth stuff: Headset Profile (HSP) 1.1, Hands-Free Profile (HFP) 1.5, Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) 1.2, Version 2.1+EDRBattery life: Tested to last approximately 10-11 hours, depending on your volume and audio type. My maximum testing for it lasted about 15 hours and at max use, it only lasted about 5 hours. If it is running low on battery, it will tell you via the speaker.Overall I would say the battery life on the Jawbone Jambox is GREAT!Weight: A mere 12 pounds...4) Looks Funky
I can assure you the first thing that will catch your attention about this speaker is the external design. Although some of my friends were attracted to the sound produced by the Jawbone Jambox at their first encounter, my personal experience has to be the look of it on the outside. It is quite frankly unique when I first saw it and to say that it is a speaker wasn't really at the top of my list of "What the heck is this thing....??"
This solid design makes it look very durable and hence dropping it on the floor does not necessarily mean that the Jawbone Jambox is doomed.
But DON'T BE FOOLED by its appearance"

Is It The Best Portable Speakers?
Speaker Performance
I know you might hate me for saying this but you cannot expect beautiful exquisite natural sound to come out from this wireless speaker. Sure Jawbone's engineers must have invested a lot of time into it making its internal components state of the art enough to provide the best sound but no matter how good the quality of your audio or this speaker is, the sound that comes out still fills "trapped..." It almost feels like the sound wants to escape from this shell like thing and go into maximum potential but is unable to do so...
The lows that come from the Jawbone Jambox airplay wireless speaker is very impressive for its size. The trebles are also great. Very clear and clean sounding but at low volumes, the trebles don't come out as well.
Not so Good on Speakerphone
I'm not so sure what went wrong when I tried testing it out with noise at the background, the caller on the other side just doesn't seem to hear that well. You should probably stick to your regular in built car audio or some other audio device if you want to put it on speaker. It is quite a pain having to speak so much louder but yet the caller on the other side cannot hear you...
***Update*** The NEW Jawbone BIG JAMBOX!
Just when I thought that Jawbone could not come up with a better speaker than Jawbone Jambox, they actually came out with one and it is called the Jawbone BIG JAMBOX
I must admit that isn't a very creative name for a new speakers but anyway this time, you will be expecting much more from this speaker than its predecessor. I would say that the Jawbone BIG JAMBOX is Version 2.0 of the Jawbone Jambox.
So what makes it better?
1) BIGGER Sound
The fact that it is bigger means that the sound is louder. Not only that, this new speakers really does have "Hi Fi" like audio power. The sound is big enough to fill a large room. If you have a hall that is 10' by 6' (feet) than the Jawbone BIG Jambox will cover this area very well. Expect it to blast enough audio power for rock and roll, hip hop and electronic music. Your teens will love this speakers
2) LiveAudio - Listening to Music Like On Stage...
This LiveAudio feature sounds awesome! Only a few speakers today can boast of producing speakers that sound really like on stage. I have to say that this feature is not prefect as there are times when certain musical instruments sound a little fake but most of it has given me that "on-stage feeling" very well. Take for example a few John Mayer classics. I could swear that I thought he was playing next to me! With this feature, you feel immersed in the music and it brings incredible depth and detail to every subtle nuance.
3) Easily Updateable
Unlike the old Jambox, this BIG Jambox, is easily updateable and has easy to upgrade firmware. This is a good thing to ensure that your speakers work perfectly all the time. You can even download apps for this speakers!
My Final Verdict
Given the fact that it is quite pricey, almost as pricey or probably even more pricey in some places than the Bose Wireless speakers, obviously you need to think if it is justifiable to pay for it. Well, I can tell you for sure that the sound quality beats the Bose speakers flat this time and the better apps and so-called "Smart" features make it more worth your money.

Other Great Airplay Speakers For Your Consideration (Wireless and Bluetooth capable airplay Speakers)
If somehow the Jawbone Jambox wireless airplay speakers does not tickle your fancy, here are three other great choices of airplay speakers that have considerable positive reviews in particular the FIRST PRODUCT, the Logitech Wireless Boombox...
This Logitech speakers is a wireless airplay speaker that has the ability to stream audio from your smartphones and tablet PCs. It has really good wireless range of up to 11m. Battery life is not as good as the Jawbone Jambox. It lasts an average of 6 hours but consider the size of this thing first relative to the Jawbone Jambox. It is also really good at lows, mids and highs. Will definitely give you a big impression while testing it!
Comparison With the jawbone jambox: My personal opinion is that the Logitech Wireless Boombox can go at much higher volumes than the Jawbone jambox and if you are a looking for a "bigger" sounding speaker sound system the Logitech Wireless Boombox is better. In terms of sound quality, I do feel that they both sound pretty much the same at lower volumes but the bass is definitely stronger on the Jawbone jambox.
2) Bose Soundlink Wireless Mobile Speaker
Bose is synonymous with great quality audio products. This speaker has a very good wireless range, of up to 10m. It also delivers great music and sound with a majority of our testing. It is also compatible with just about any Bluetooth capable device.
3) Altec Lansing inMotion AIr Wireless Speakers
The Altec Lansing InMotion has an insane wireless range of almost 100m. In fact, we could not believe it until we actually tested the wireless range of this speaker. Even at that range, its Apt-X technology allows good audio fidelity. You will definitely be impressed with the sound coming out from it. This speaker is also very portable and lasts a good 7 hours on full charge. One thing I must add about this speaker is that it has really good lows but the trebles are not so great.

More Jawbone speakers below: The Jawbone Era and Jawbone Icon
There are two more jawbone speakers that you need to have a look too and that is the Jawbone Era and Jawbone Icon. I'm not going into too much detail on these two speakers as the two videos below will talk a lot about it and you can also find lens related to them on Squidoo as well.
In short, these two speakers are sort of bluetooth speakers that are more for smartphone/iphone usage with amazing noise cancellation technology
