Logitech Wireless Boombox: My Personal Review

Updated on September 11, 2012

Introduction: What Is the Logitech Wireless Boombox?

The Logitech Wireless Boombox is one of the most popular wireless speakers for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Here are some of its features:

  • Long range bluetooth connectivity of up to 33 feet. This really depends on your home setting. It could be more or less than whats estimated by Logitech.

  • Stream audio wirelessly to your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch whenever in range at home.

  • 6 hour battery life. This really depends on how you use it, the volume of your music and the type of music you play.

  • Compatible with all smartphone OS including Android and Apple. Also compatible with Mac OS X, Windows Vista, XP and 7. Obviously...it is also compatible with the iPad and iPod Touch

  • Audio Features including 20 Watts with AC and 6 Watts with DC Power. Only 1 input for your compatible audio devices

  • Comes with eight custom tuned drivers on its speaker system.

  • 2 year limited warranty and 6 feet power supply cable.

Although these features might seem insignificant to you as it looks pretty much the same as other portable wireless speakers in the market, read more below to see me compare it with other speakers. I will also look into the pros and cons of the Logitech Wireless Boombox speakers!

Things I Like About The Logitech Wireless Boombox

Great Sound Quality

There aren't too many speakers of this type that sound awesome on all sorts of music. I would say that the Logitech Wireless Boombox speaker is an all rounder performer on most types of music. The one thing that stands out about the boombox is the bass. I must say that it sounds a little bit too punchy on low bass music like hip hop, rap or sometimes rock. The mids and high range tones is not the best but decent enough. Sound quality is still clean though but there are higher end systems with better clarity and depth but you wouldn't complain too much about them unless you are really picky and demand high performance speakers which this speaker will not deliver. You should look elsewhere.

I've also tested it with other genres of music including Mozart, Beethoven, and REM and I must say I am quite impress with the performance. For some reason, the mid range and high notes seem to come out better in them.

In terms of volume, this Logitech Wireless boombox speaker can go up pretty high in terms of volume and sound almost as good as my home theatre system.

Compared to Altec Lansing and Bose speakers, I would prefer the overall performance of the Logitech Wireless Boombox speakers.

Overall, what you get in performance, is pretty much on par with the price you pay for this speaker unit. Having said that, I still think that this Logitech Wireless Boombox speaker is affordable for its performance.

Portability and Compatibility

This speaker is compatible with all my audio devices at home. I used to have problems connecting my iPhone and my partner's Samsung Smartphone to these sort of speakers a few years ago but this is no longer the case anymore. The portability is a big plus for me as I like to travel and bring the Boombox around. The compact size also makes carrying it around easier. I also like the AUX-IN feature that allows easy plugging to my laptop to watch movies. The dual voltage is more of a bonus to me but a great feature nonetheless.

My Only Gripe WIth The Logitech Wireless Boombox Speaker

Bass Loses Power When Unplugged

This is the single biggest grip with this speaker. I can only speculate that the bass drivers take up a lot more power as the fullness and thumping bass goes away as soon as I unplug the AC power and leave it on battery. Not goo IMHO but still bearable. I would prefer Logitech to have both energy efficiency and great bass on this speaker.

For those of you who would prefer having a smaller portable speaker, the Logitech wireless mini boombox is the one for you. It is the "baby"of the original Logitech Wireless Boombox.

Having said that, some differences with this speaker includes a 10 hour long battery life ( compared to 6 for its bigger sibling), backlit touch panel controls ( way cooler than the big brother I think...), lighter and more portable (duhh...). You also won't need to charge it with an AC adaptor as it is charged through a USB connector. Compatibility with audio devices is similar to the bigger Logitech Wireless Boombox.
